Ig mentioned that he would make a surface grinder form an old Coote grinder. I have an old Coote....not Iggy. I can understand the mag table and X plus Y functions.(bolt mag vise on a milling table) Can't come up with a good Z(up and down) function. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

You'd have to bolt the grinder itself to an arm attached to a screw, like an old milling vise mounted vertically.

Yea I've been toyin with the idea of a belt surface grinder to clean up some of my forged blades before the usual knife makin gets goin...I use a 4 x 132 backstand belt sander to grind blades on and with a 40 grit ceramic belt on it is a steel eater! I bagged a 8x8 contact wheel a while back and have the idea of usin it for a surface grind rig using the 4x132 belts but haven't worked out all the bugs...a screw fed carriage to move the mag vise along set up on some angled ways to change elevation and I wasn't goin to worry about movin the vise since I had the 4" width....I was thinkin of keepin the contact wheel stationary.....don't know if any o' this helps....
