Make me an offer I can't refuse.

written by Drama Queens. "Fatal Exception"...gimmeabreak.

They usually do mean something pretty specific and are descriptive....but you gotta look pretty deep under the hood to find out what. Sometimes the more innocuous sounding ones are the worst.

My fave was "General Protection Fault"

Kinda made me think of something bad eventually hatching somewhere in there due to failure of a prophylactic device.

Is anybody shying away from the 20" AK because of the condition?

If so, I'll make you an offer.

I'll do the refinishing for FREE as long as you pay the shipping to me and then to your place.

You'll get a hair-poppin' convex edge, and your choice of handle finish: satin or glossy, oil or polyurethane, stain (if so desired) and the full wax treatment.

Offer Bill $85 + s/h to send it to me and when you get it, you'd be able to resale it easily for $150+.

Offer stands, of course, only for the village model... ;)

I like those "rescue projects". :D

Dan

I'll take you up on that very kind offer if the one you are talking about is the wooden handled one on the bottom of the 3 pics. Sorry, but I am new to this so I don't know the different names just by looking at them. I sent Uncle Bill an email.

My understanding is that yes, he's talking about that villager. ANd you're getting a great deal here due to Dan's very kind offer. You might even consider doing it yourself though, if not with this one, with one in the future(ie the 12" villagers that Uncle Bill is getting for some of us). Once you see what Dan can make this one look like, I think you'll be inspired to try it yourself, least if you're anything like me.

And Dan, you're making me get off my butt, have some water heating on stove right now to pull those two soft chakmas and one cracked karda from the horn handles. Be a while before I can sell the one with cracked karda and pick up another one to rework(as I also have to repair cracks in the horn for thekarda, and after using bioling water to remove karda, have to let it dry back to its' normal condition before I use epoxy to fix it).

You might even consider doing it yourself though...
I second that suggestion.

It's relatively straight-forward and simple (if rather time-consuming) to get handles to look like those in Steve Ferguson's recent thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=263421

I'm about 3/4 of the way through doing just that. And it's even a little easier on an unfinished handle.

There have been several treads that tell how to do it. Or, you could finish it with superglue. Really.

There are threads in Shop Talk forum about superglue finishes. Can get a great looking finish that way.

Personally, I'm actually thinking about just making my own chakma and karda and rehandling a khuk here. My only problem is that I don't have anything thick enough for a khuk handle. Gooing to see what local wood shop has, but don't know that they'd have anything of right thickness. Was thinking instead i might do it in layers. ie, layer of rosewood, layer of ebony, and so on until I had gone full length of handle. Or somethign along those lines. Have some rosewood here already,a nd it's thick enough that I could carve chakma and karda handles from it. Then would just need some ebony to layer for the handle on the khuk. And maybe some 410SS or something for accents between the layers.

And I'm just going to hit post right now as I'm making this whole project fancier and more complicated with every line I write. :D

18" AngKhola with very nice profile,
nice fuller,
horn handle with a trace of light streaking,
karda & chakma with same horn handles,
must be a master chopper...........

Think........think........think........
