I would live to see some pictures of what you have made. I will type up a detailed description of what I would like as well, so you can see if it is something you are interested in as well.
I will also check fiddleback.
As a start, what I am really after is a do all camp/woods knife. I have been using a few of my own and a few borrowed long enough now to know what I want.
As a very rough idea, a six to 6.5 cutting length with a finger choil and handle very much like the tops tahoma. The curve and multi position grip fit well when I borrowed a friend's.
The blade shape I am after is more like a bravo 1 but with a tick more drop to it than that so the point is centered on the axis of the handle. The busse Ashe is just about the right profile for the blade proper. Thickness is somewhere between 0.19 and 0.21.
Convexed like a barkie.
The tang would be exposed and flattened so it is parralel to the side of your hand to be used to mash or crush like whacking a walnut with it if that makes sense. Also, that exposed portion would have dished out pocket on the right side of the knife with a very sharp edge to the pocket for use with a fire steel when held by a right hander in a reverse grip.
Micarta or g10 scales. Contouring so it really fills the hand and won't slip, but not a lot of excessive texturing.
I would like a thumb ramp centered over the front finger choil and the blade sharpened to the choil.
Anyway, I have some pictures of knives with features and shapes I would like to combine or build from if anyone feels this project might be for them.
Steel is something I need help with. Absolutely no coatings. A good corrosion resistant steel with toughness for light chopping and light battoning, but good edge retention too. I have been please with the steel in my bravo one, but it seems hard to sharpen. Once it is there, it keeps the edge. I am wide open on steels suggestions.
I wondered about a tapered tang to give it a more weight forward feel as well.
Anyway, let me know what you think.
Thanks!
