Every day, every day

campknife001.jpg
Is this one from some of the G-11 from Jim Todd (me)?

Great looker!
Jim

The bottom one is a hunter that I will carry/wear hunting once I build a sheath for it.

The middle one is a larger camp knife that I mostly use in the kitchen until I make myself a proper couple of kitchen knives.

the top one is a bushwhacker that I also use in the kitchen for cutting up 20+ LB chunks of beef into roasts and steaks.

Here's the knives that see the bulk of use outdoors in one of my years. Also a fair amoubt of kitchen and 3 fillet knives not pictured. The saddlehorn is one of my very early ones and is always with me bowhunting. (Ats-34) The recurve hunter has seen
an awful lot of animals both with a bow and a gun, Early expieriments seeing if box
elder would hold that rose color (cold blued 01) The toothpick is there day in and
day out for whatever needs to be done with a knife.

Although I have only made 8 knives thus far I think I have ruined myself for neck knives with the neck knife I made for and wore at my wedding:

Myweddingknife.jpg

It is the first piece of steel that I tried filework on (many different patterns) and could not throw it away so I made a knife out of it. It was actually a backup for the sword I was making for the occasion (best wife ever) but rebreaking the plate in my leg and subsequent surgery meant I could not finish it so I "completed" this one, just did not give it a good finish, and put the edge on it the night before the wedding. It fits my uses for a neck knife well enough that if I need a thinner blade for instance, a slipjoint or other folder is there to compensate. Can't wait until I have the experience and quality machinery to make myself a folder to carry, but I am a patient man (although it does bug me when classmates ask if I made the folder I am carrying and I have to say no).

Well, I believe you should show commitment in what you make. I carry a "gentleman's" folder with Damascus blade, meteorite bolsters and mammoth ivory scales. It shows the materials I use most often and the quality of work as well. Sorry, but I too, don't do pictures. Frank

I used to carry this one every day for months at a time, but now I don't get the opportunity as much with my current job. :( Still get it out on a semi regular basis though.

possum, that is one great bowie, i love it!

I do not make the pretty knives that some here do, but I do carry and use mine daily, its how i test designs. Its also hard to KEEP a knife like that, as someone will see it and falls in love. I try to tell them I'll make them one like it, but I end up selling it off. I feel bad as sometimes they have been used and do not look new, but the people who buy my knives generally are going to use them hard. I do have a few i will NOT sell as i made them for myself.

I used to carry rougher looking stuff, but thought that it did not adeqautely represent what i could do, so i took a little more time to make them look better.

I have some favorite knives that I carried before I started making knives myself, but since I make them now it wouldn't make much sense to carry someone else's knife. I would like to make myself a carved stag handle hunting knife, but I can't until I get some others made first. I did make this little bowie that is similar in size to a black plastic handle Imperial dime store knife I carried as a boy. I have used it nearly every day for cutting something or other for the last year and its 1095 blade is starting to show a nice used color. It spends most of its time in my truck and unless I am hunting or fishing it just gets stuck in my back pocket. While I have made knives for myself in the past they usually end up being sold before I get to use them. This one was the exception. It is not for sale, but it could be bought. There would just be this added cost of carefully aging the knife that created the patina on the blade and the distressed look of the handle and sheath without actually causing rust or damage that would be added to the original price. :D

looks great harry....nothin better than a pic of a well aged knife.....ryan

p.s.-how durable r those carved handle you and your brother do?

We think that they are very durable. I don't think that they should be abused, but they can certainly stand good use. Most aren't destined for hard use though. They will likely just be used to hold down a shelf in a display case. If someone wanted one that retained all the strength of a stag handle we do the same carving without penetrating the handle. The carving on those is only 1/16 to 1/8 in depth. I have always thought of stag as nature's micarta. It is very durable and difficult to damage even on purpose. It is nothing like ivory as far as being fragile or brittle. We have not had one break, crack, chip or peal yet!

i kind of figured that harry....thanks for the info and the pic.....i have always loved teh carved stag you guys do....very cool....ryan

This is my current EDC - Agate Dinosaur bone on an Kershaw Mojito. Since I only do the scales and mostly on folding knives, for me it is pretty easy.

My wife also uses two of my fixed blade knifes in the kitchen pretty much every day too....
