I know there are places to get customized metal stamps and alphabet metal stamps, but I was looking for a Stamp that just had U.S.A. on it. I want to stamp my handmade knives just so people can tell the fact when I try to sell them and they do not see where the knife is made. Plus it always makes a knife look better to me seeing made in U.S.A. As far as a maker's mark I figured I would have to order a custom metal stamp, but I am not at that level of making knives. Do metal stamps work well on higher end steels after the steel is heat treated?

Short answer = NO

You could build an electro-etcher for less than $100, then you can get stencils that say whatever you want. If you get quality stencils, they will etch many, many blades if you do it right and don't over-heat them and keep them clean. The electro-etch doesn't really care if the blade has been heat treated or not.

Now I know that the above statement has lots of "questions" and "what-ifs" involved, but if you do a tad bit of research, you can find answers to those questions, including how to build your own.

Sorry Eldo, I think Whiskey would go in a different sub category, but what counts is that you checked to make sure.

Most metal stamps are about 60 rockwell and are made to be used on "softer" metals so any blade steel would need to be stamped before heat treat.

Ive seen ready made USA stamps from some of the custom stamp makers, they usually have some of the popular selections like that in stock

You will have to stamp them before heat treating. Are you making your own blades or working with pre-made blades?

Like others have and will say, I'd look into electro etching.

As for "made in the USA," it's fine... but consider something a bit simpler that many makers do:

Firstname Lastname
Your city, Your state

Simple, dis-ambiguous (in case there are other makers with the same name), basically implies that it's made in the USA, and people will know where to find you if they want more.

Ok thanks everyone, I will stamp USA before heat treat and try engraving maybe initials or makers mark. I will be making my own knives for the person who asked.
