Maker's Mark - Poor Form?

Just finished my second blade and figured I should start marking these things. Was going to use my first and middle name initials and last name, J.S. Hays.

It occurred to me that perhaps the J.S. could be taken as Journeyman Smith. Don't want to misrepresent myself or my works, what do you guys/gals think?

Also thought about just simply using my last name and city/state but apparently there was at one time a Hays Knives in Montana. I'd rather not have people think the guy just moved to Idaho and is kicking out blades for better/worse (couldn't find any pics of his work). Heck there's probably other Hays' out there and maybe even some Hayes' (even though they spell it wrong). How do you separate your mark from other, possibly more established or possibly more infamous, makers with similar names?

I personally would go with something like J Hays Idaho. Most makers using the JS designation place it after their name, but I see your point. Even if the inner was not to fool anyone there may be people who don't know or certain people who get grouchy thinking you are trying to pass it as a JS knife.

Use "Jacob Hays" with the name of your city and state.

Your mark does not have to be HUGE.

Far to many makers have huge makers mark. Painters sign their name in the bottom corner so it does not interfere with their art. I think a knife should be the same. Put you name on but it should not overwhelm your art.
