Thought I would show off my newest press, in case others have been thinking of building one.
I threw together a press the other day, it was not the one seen in the photos. It was similar to this one seen but used slightly thinner plate and no guide to hold/capture the stamp.
When a good gunsmithing friend dropped by for a visit and saw me attempt to use my new press and laughed.
I really do have the ability to do good work, but had neglected to do it this day.
my friend took my press home and made this for me instead. Thanks Arnold (Metalmole).
It works really well, although I had to flatten the top of the hydraulic press as it had a waffle pattern that impressioned the pattern into the knife.
Improvements, I plan to bolt down the jack and attach a spring so when I release pressure it will come down automatically.
Its heavy but works a charm and does not flex when used.
Arnold made this press the same width as the one I had made.
If I were to do it again It would not be near as wide, Really does not need to be this wide.

?This is giving me some ideas. Did you make your own die for the mark? If so, what did you use and how did you do it?

Dannggg!!! That's a darn good idea!!! I'm gonna have to try that today. I use stamps too and normally have to give it a few whacks before I'm happy. I was thinking about getting a stamp holder but this looks way better. Thanks for posting!!!

I have drawn up prints to make one like that, But I wanted to use some all thread for the tie rods to have some adjust-ability for universal pressing uses.

No I did not make the stamp myself, dont quite have the time or skill for that yet. I purchased it from Everstamp. Only used it a few times but works well so far.
Just wanting to share with my peeps, I got the idea from someone that posted here awhile back.
Hope it inspires.

That looks interesting. I assume you stamp before HT? Is it hard to clean up afterwards?

Mudbug
Yes definitely stamp before HT. I might possibly sand the sides of the knife after heat treat but this one shown is still unhardened. I dont believe I will have any problems with depth of the stamp after sanding as its about .020 deep if I had to guess
maybe deeper.
The photos you see above I did nothing besides stamp and photo.
