Iv'e been having a long standing debate with myself over that too. Be curious to see what some of the other guys have to say. I think to some degree it depends on the design of your mark or signature. It can flow better from one side than the other dependent on design as well.

It is normally called the Presentation side. Left side, if the knife is in your hand and the point is to the left. I would guess that this is based on the percentage of right handed people in the world. On left handed folders, I put the mark on the right side, which is still the presentation side for a "southpaw"
I always put my name on the right side of the blade (though I never really thought about it before). I'm right handed, so,to me, a knife always looked proper on a table pointing to the right. Then I just put my name where it would be seen. This is an iteresting question. Looking forward to other responses.
