So I finally got a stencil and an Atlas mini etcher. I bought a hand pad from Lectroetch instead of using the q tips. This is on one of my first knives that I have been using in the kitchen. The goal was to keep it simple but unique. I still need to work on getting it crisp but I think it's working pretty good so far.

Perhaps a bit too long on the hand pad for the amount of voltage you are using or even the other way around. Still pretty darn good.

One of the biggest improvements I've had with applying my maker's mark came about from a tip from Brian Fellhoelter. Instead of holding the pad on the stencil, try swiping just the edge of the pad across the stencil about 15 to 20 times and just use AC. Try this on a blank piece of metal, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I like it. It's simple but distinctive. I've had luck with using Flitz to remove the slight haze I sometimes get from too much AC

Nice looking mark. Very clean and classy looking. I will have to try the flitz as well because I have been getting that same halo and haze around mine.

You might try giving a quick swipe on a buffer afterwards too. Normally makes my marks pop just a little better.

Looks fabulous! I don't mind a bit of darkness around the lettering. It actually looks better to me.

Unless I can't really tell on my phone, that looks like a good stamp more than a typical etch, which I prefer.

It definitely is deep. So far I'm happy with the etching machine. I did go with a pad over the q-tips which I'm sure helps. It amazes me how you can get the details in the palm tree. All this technology is something else!!!

Would Flitz work with a hand rubbed satin finish? I wonder if it would make the finish uneven?
I've not had a problem with Flitz causing any uneveness thus far. I've used it on blades with a scotch brite finish and hand sanded finish.

Anyone know of a good source to have someone make a stencil?? I sent my design to Ernie G, but he reviewed it, and totally changed it and was either unable or willing to do it as I had sent. It was not very detailed. Very basic actually. I have also tried to reach out to tustech for the past month with no response. Any help would be appreciated!!

I had the same problem with Ernie. I drew it out like I wanted and he completely changed it. I went with lectro-etch. They kept making small changes until I was happy. Service was great and so is the product.

How are you trying to contact them? I just send them an email and tell them I would like to make a stencil and here is my design in a PDF there usually very prompt in replying

and will change the design till you like it...Very nice people.(the art initial cost is $22 for the artwork and $13 for the stencil but reordering a stencil is just the $13)

I thought TUS had some of the best service I've experience when I contacted them in March to get my stencils and they're cheaper than most of the other options. I emailed them at 1:00am and had a response back at 7:30am that same morning. Every other email was responded to on the same day I sent it and the design turnaround was very quick too.

Here's the email I used:
