Makers Marks

Does anyone want my opinion? I hope so I can get my logo once again on the forum. I think that if your work is good enough to be proud of and sell then you should put your name on it and not just some clever icon. If your work becomes very desirable then people will want your signature on it the future. Even in my small sphere of So. California there are a few knife collectors who recognize my name and my style of knife so my logo is very important to me and best of all my customers tell me it is important to them. I believe all of us would like some praise for what we do and money ( at least for me ) is a distant second place in importance. Think about your mark very carefully and remember that you do not want to change it very often if at all. Serious knife collectors want to own knives from makers with High degree of skill and a known trademark. That is m

Mine is a rune from J.R.R. Tolkien's Cirth, which stands for my initials. I chose it because it has personal significance to me and because I think runes are badass. Also because it's very easy to add to anything else I make without needing a stencil. In other words, I can woodburn it, draw it, paint it, weld it, etc and not just rely on my knife stencil. I use it on everything I make though, not just knives.

However, I have been meaning to have a new stencil made with my name on it below the rune, for all the reasons already mentioned in this thread.

My thoughts on a mark is someone who has never seen your work or heard of you, should have enough to search based on to find who made it without undue trouble.
My mark is my last name in a diamond. Simple and to the point. Unless there are a few dozen knifemakers with your last name, something based on it is probably your best bet. If you have a common last name add your first too.
Steve Schwarzer gave me great advice on a makers mark, it needs to read small and read big. Something that can be shrunk down enough to be reasonably unobtrusive on a knife (too big and fancy of a mark tends to detract from the look of the knife on higher end or more decorated pieces) yet still looks good blown up for a shirt or banner at a show.

I started with two made up Japanese Kanji that represente my name and company. I was quick to find out that you can't type Kanji into a Google search. I added my last name. The name lets you search and the Kanji confirms you found the right maker. I want my mark to only be seen when you look for it.

I thought Sweden was a Norwegian province... :p
Many of us folks from the Republic of Jämtland might agree.
We are territory occupied by Sweden. Sadly we dont have capacity to break free and Norway does not want us back anyway.

But to be on topic, I presently use stylised initials ”HA”.
That design was easy to make and durable as I stamp or more recently press at redheat.
Been thinking of a new design & possibly etching. I dunno yet.
