Maker's marks

Hell, mine is easy. "MANDT" in New Times Roman bold.:D
 
Please submit the maker's marks to the e-mail address. It is going to make it easier for us to pick them off and be sure that we don't miss one.

Here is the e-mail address. don'ttypethisknifemakersmark@gmail.comorthis. Remove the "don'ttypethis" and "orthis" from the ends and you have it. Submission of a photo is indication that the owner is giving permission for its incorporation in whole or part in the knifemakers mark database and that no copyrights will be violated in doing so. I just thought I would throw that in cause it makes me feel better.

Thanks Keith in getting this made into a sticky as it's an important project that will benefit many in the years to come.
I hope maker's share this opinion and participate by sending in their marks.

There's people who are making the effort to promote and progress the custom knife industry for the future. However, unless the custom knife enthusiast in general chips in just a little in supporting projects and associations these people are just wasting their time.
 
I think this is an exceptionally important project. On the weekend I am going to start a major emailing campaign to ask makers to send their marks to the Mathews twins.
 
I cringe reading this. The sheer amount of marks I have captured is staggering. Mostly mainstream makers, but not all.

I am certain I can help--in the future--but I never seem to be anywhere less than a couple of weeks away from 'free time' The price of success.

This would take me hours and hours. We'll get to many. At any rate, all my images are here to stay.

The way that David Darom suggested reproducing the mark is probably the easiest. Many makers don't have a clue as to how to make a pdf.

I would love for those more in the know to give their opinions on what would be the best way for people to send the maker's marks to Harry.

Severedthumbs, did someone from the CKCA ask you make the above post? I am just trying to figure out where you got the approval to make that request.

You're right Coop in that capturing, cataloging and updating these maker's marks is a huge task and like some other projects the CKCA is taking on or helping others other with are long term projects. The maker information database I spoke of earlier in the thread is an example of this and is extremely laborious.

I hope several years down the road when we start enjoying the fruit of this labor, CKCA members and non-members alike will look back and be glad we took the initiative to get these worthwhile project moving forward.

Coop, so far it is not a problem. We have had a few submissions, but not very many. I truly hope it becomes a problem, because that is what it is going to take to get the job done. We need a program that can be used to search for information and will allow a maker to submit his own marks and up date it, (with oversight) but until that is developed we are going to attempt to accumulate all we can.

Keith for right now until something permanent is worked out Charlie and I would rather have the images submitted in jpeg format. The jpeg format is easier for us to deal with the way we are storing the information and we both need for it to be as easy as possible.:D

Well then, folks should send them to you and Charlie as jpegs. Whatever works best for you guys is the way we should go.
 
Charlie and Harry,

Is it okay for you if I accumulate all of one maker's marks that I can
put my hands on and present then together as one page?
Something like those of Edmund Davidson, Tim Hancock and S.R. Johnson
that I posted previously?

BTW, Sending jpg files would certainly make it easier
for everybody involved.
 
David we are identifying the pictures for a maker the same way as the maker's information just in different folders. That way we end up with two alphabetical lists one of the makers and one of the marks. For now I think that a group picture is ok, and is less work for us. Down the line they might need to be seperated, but I don't see a problem in doing that.
 
I agree, Harry, that it will be no problem to separate the marks
when you receive those of one maker nicely grouped on one page...

Here for example is the SR Johnson page to which I have added
several more of his etches.

David didn't Loveless have a mark where he showed the back side of the reclining nude mark on the reverse side of the blade? Or is that the wishful thinking of an aging mind playing tricks on me again?
I added my name, didn't realize the comp was signed on as Charlie. Shoot, his mind is older than mine. He likely would have thought it too.

Yes Harry, but it is simply the mirror image of the one on my list
and as far as I know it is etched on the reverse side of his knives
that have the reclining nude up front....
