Makers Marks

I have been thinking about makers marks on knives.

I find that my convex blades (think BRKT knives) that have etched makers marks do not last long. I end up rubbing them off either during use, or while sharpening (I often set a more gradual profile to my convex blades).

I like the makers marks on spine of the blade or the marks that are stamped (Koyote, ML, Rick) or a deeper etch (like Laconico).

What do you guys think about this? Do you prefer lightly etched, deep etched or stamped knives?

I know that on my landi, it rubbed right off, but on my others like my breeden, you can't take that off.....I like them like on there sort of like a logo.........stamped is my fav.....

I know what you mean about the lightly etched marks. Unless you plan on keeping the knife in a safe, the etch won't last long. I prefer a stamp like what Scott Gossman does. The spine marks look cool though, that would be my second choice.

Something lasting is preferred by me. NWA's are deep. Stomper's are permanent. Laconico's are deep but don't seem to be stamped. Engraved and filled?

I also prefer to have them last. I don't care what method as long as it won't rub off.

Stamped on the blade tang or handle slabs are my favorite, followed by engraved on the blade, followed by laser etched on the blade.

I have to agree on stamped or deeply etched, but small. Simple and small keeps it from being gaudy but still tells you who made it. I'm not a big fan of marks that take up nearly a full square inch of the blade, but maybe I'm weird :P

I've been thinking on using a system of a rubber stamp and a gelled etchant. Just leave the gel on for about 24 hrs before washing off.

Small and stamped for me.

I know SOG isn't all that popular around here, but I have a few of their blades from back around the mid 90's, and they have some of the nicest deeply stamped letters and logos I've seen.
