One of the interesting aspects of the recent Northeast Hammer-In was seeing what all the makers had on their belts or in their pockets as an everyday working knife. Of course, I wasn't smart enough to snap pictures of them all when they were right there, and Coop's handy light box was right there... d'oh! :o

Anyway, I'd love to see what you makers carry as your own pesonal knife - whether it be a shop knife or filed knife or whatever. Snap a pic and give us a peek.

I'll start off with the one maker's knife I DID manage to photograph at the hammer-in. Who says a damscus MS knife can't be a user?

This one by Burt Foster has seen consistent use for the better part of a year, as can be seen by the wear and tear on the browned guard. I can tell you that the damscus blade cuts like a laser and the handle approaches ergonomic perfection.

Okay, let's see some more.:)

I like this thread! Sort of a "Put up or shut up!"
This is my EDC. (Actually, one of the last knives I made that do NOT take-down!)
I made this, for some reason which escapes me now, but it wasn't up to my standards to offer for sale. Somebody missed out on a heck of a knife!
Forged 5160 and selectively hardened. Nickel guard. Rosewood handle.
Every time I head off to the woods or the river, she's with me. Sharpens easily and holds a nice edge. Not sure how many deer she has dressed. Or how much catfish bait she's cut up.
She's a good friend.
I did NOT clean her up at all for this photo. Just pulled her out of the sheath and took the pictures. Amazingly, there always seems to remain a shine on that Rosewood, which is raw, un-stabilized Bolivian rosewood.
Also, I ALWAYS leave her in the sheath - ALWAYS! I did a treatment on the sheath two years ago in an effort to see if I can get some rust on the blade, and it just doesn't happen. Looks like I did the right thing.
I've also done the same thing to every sheath I've made since then.
I quench my fresh raw leather sheaths, dyed or not, in 150 degree hot Neetsfoot oil for about 15 seconds. That sheath, with a LOT of carry time and use, looks like I made it yesterday.

Here's a quick shot of the knives we use around here. No stainless in this house :) I made the kitchen knives back in the early to mid 90s. I catch hell for toting the Case knife, I have a T.Bose that I should be carrying and will one day but I'll make myself a folder soon.

I made a pair of these. One went to a friend in BC, I carried the other for about a year, I cleaned it up and donated it to a youth hunt, as a prize, for the biggest buck taken that year.
The steel was 52100 with a red mallee handle.

I will be making myself a damascus EDC when I get back in the shop.

here is my daily "big" knife. holds a very special place for me, as Fikes and I forged it, he ground & heat treated, I polished the bevels, browned the flats, and he wrapped it. It is used hard by me and anyone else that stops by and wants to cut.

here's my 4 year old son's around the house (supervised) knife- bandsaw steel, 4 inch blade, rounded tip. it's sharp, but stropped and done at a 30 degree angle.

Here's the second Sierra patch hiker I made, which I've been abusing on purpose- it's a bit rough looking, bandsaw again, 3.25 inch blade.

same design, evolved- this is close to the 'production' model, but this one has extra thick handle for people with hand issues

link, it's a big picture: http://sietchtabr.googlepages.com/image4.jpg

and the one I made for my housemate, she's a butcher and uses this at work every day- 3 inch blade mini filet. Photo is from before final finishing, but I forgot to take another :/

This is mine. I do 18th c. reenacting, but this goes with me anywhere I need a knife. 01 steel, 9"x 1 3/8"x 5/32", tapered tang, full distal blade taper, bone grip slabs, all lightly aged.

Great stuff so far gents - some neat knives and neat stories to go with them. Looking forward to seeing a few more.

DH III - I love that big leaf-shaped blade in the group pic - looks kinda old-timey. And I'm not knocking your Case folder, but let's just say that upgrade can't come soon enough. :p

Karl - I like that design -stout and useful.

Fred - that's a slick-looking piece -what did you use for the spacers?

I carry a friction folder I forged from 1084 with a moose antler handle. It is lightweight and razor sharp. When people see it they have to have a closer look.

Here is one that has been my EDC since November.

This was my second try at a liner-lock, well I made #2 and #3 at the same time so this one may be #3, my wife carries the other in her purse.

D-2 blade green linen Micarta scales.

Take Care

Carry a knife? If I carry a knife it becomes my newest lost knife. My edc is my finger nail clipper on my key ring. Cuts bailing twine and finger nails. :D

Why, when you can sell it for at least a few car payments? :p:D
I don't have any car payments Danbo but your reasoning is why I haven't done it yet, and the fact that I have too many orders to fill:) But Roger is right, time for an upgrade.

Here's my old hunter, 01 steel and stag. Been used a lot.
