Makers - show us the knife YOU carry.

I'll try to get a picture up later....:o

My EDC rotation:

BM Skirmish 635
Zero Tolerance 0302
Kershaw Junkyard Dog
Spyderco Mariner

Tom Krein TK-11 Tanto in Paul Long sheath
Graham Brothers SS3 Razel (custom one-off)

I usually have one of my K-TUSKs in rotation...but keep selling 'em instead. :D

Here's my EDC pair. Straight off the belt for a pic.

Both were forged from 1095 scraps. The top one has 2 1/4" blade, cow bone handle and is for box cutting and general work. The lower has a 3" blade, deer leg bone handle, is used for more delicate work. Like skinning wire. Been in daily use for about 2yrs.

Here as a couple by Shawn Ellis. First is the one he is currently using. W-2 steel & L-6 324 layers with a random ladder pattern. SS guard with sheep horn handle mortise handle .

Next is a W-2 clipoint with a 4 1/2"blade n/silver guard with sambar stag handle - just the type of knife he likes to take bow hunting.

Now that's a great all purpose EDC. The handle looks so comfortable yet will give you good power to the blade for the tough chores.

Daniel, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't EDC their own knife. I have a Spyderco Endura that I carry at all times and sometimes I also carry a SAK to go with it. When I can I'd really like to make myself a camp knife. Even though my knives aren't that expensive, I still can't afford to keep one for myself. I barely make enough money selling all the knives I can make.:)

here's what I have been carrying this Summer. Made one of my Nessmuk pattern with burgandy micarta scales. Steel is 1/8in 1095. It has worked quite well so far :)

My current EDC made by me:

This one is 52100 with a nice edge quench. 59 Rc.
Blade length is about 3". The overall length is a little over 7 inches.
1-1/4" wide at it's widest and ground to just under 1/8" thickness at the ricasso with a nice distal taper.
Handled in Stabilized California Buckeye Burl with a brass guard.
I tried to give it to my wife, but it's sharper than anything she's ever had and she's scared of it, so I get to carry it for a while.

I also carry a Kershaw Chive folder from time to time.

I rotate through several actually. They are all prototypes and/or had a small flaw. Still 100% useable knives, just not something I wanted to sell.

Here's one I made a while ago that I carry alot.

Here's another.

Lately I've been carrying a red Sparrowhawk with a red Kydex sheath which was a gift from a good friend, neighbor, and fellow knifemaker Lamont Coombs. It looks just like this, only red on red.

In addition, I always carry a Leatherman Wave and a slipjoint so as to not freek out the sheeple if I need to cut something in front of them. Usually its a Case or a Buck (Trapper or Stockman).

Thanks for looking.

Here are Rik Palm's working knives. One is a "Moth" friction folder forged blade/brass handle. Another is made from an old saw blade with a osage orange and the third one is a laminated blade experiment with an ebony wood handle.

Cool, as expected.

This is what I carry daily. Mesquite and D2. The two in my sig. are knives I carry when I hit the big woods.

All these get a pretty serious workout every day in the shop. I carry the top one and sheath on my belt everywhere I go.

I just noticed that all these (except for the Case) are made from O-1. No particular reason, it just happened that way

That seems to be a pretty common theme in what ultimately becomes a maker's using knife. It is to your collective credit that you won't sell anything that doesn't measure up to a very high standard, but I have to say, I have seen more than a few castoffs and rejects that I would be very proud to own.

Lovett - that is a slick piece of steel.

I decided that I wanted to keep one of the knives that I submitted for judging to receive voting status in the Knifemakers Guild. So I made this one a little more fancy than one I would normally carry. This will be my new hunting knife this fall. It has a 4.25 inch blade of CPM M4 steel mammoth ivory handle and Jim Small engraved stainless bolsters.

This is a great thread. I made this knife with the intention of keeping it and using it as my hunting knife. I wanted to try out some CPM M4 steel and had a piece of stag that I wanted to use on a handle style that I like. The 4.25 inch blade is made of CPM M4. The handle is sambar stag, with buffalo horn and nickel silver spacers. The guard is nickel silver also.

Fred - that's a slick-looking piece -what did you use for the spacers?

The red spacer is from a Brunswick bowling ball.
I just can not pass up free materials:D

Good thread Roger:thumbup:
