So the past year or so I have been making knife scales for folders and modifying a few knives when I can. What I really woukd like to do is make the entire knife. I woukd likely draw inspiration from BM axis lock or some other wedge style lock. If not that, then a nice liner lock.

Really wish they had a south Louisiana maker to pick up tips and technique from (i dont know of any). Or at least try my hand before investing serious money in belt grinders and heating oven.
Not sure how you venture iff into your first knife from scratch; especially a folder. I'm not worried about whether or not I am capable, its more how do I try without spending a ton of cash up front.

Just some random thoughts as I finish sanding for the evening...

I started with and still use a harbor freight 16 speed drill press. $350.00
And a Gough style fileing jig. Maybe $20 in it.
A few hand files I had already laying around.
And lots of sandpaper.

Where there is a will there is a way.

It's not like you won't ever use a drill press for other things.
I started on folders straight out of the gate.

I still use the hand filing jig for my folder blades and purchased a 2x42 craftsman for fixed blades.
If you do sell a few knives you can upgrade.

I also made a two brick forge probably 30$ in it.
