Making a folding knife (sanmai and buffalo)

Planube, welcome to the site.

That is a really cool looking knife. Very nicely done. Thank you for the WIP (Work In Progress)

Fantastic work! That is an amazing way to do a folder, thank you very much for your time documenting and sharing this process with us.

Awesome folder, I love everything about it. At first I wasn't sure how it was going to look, but it came out beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Wow, that was amazing.

May I ask how you made that san mai? Did you just heat the slabs and press them together?

Absolute proof in pictorial form that world class blade-smithing can be accomplished with minimal tooling and tremendous talent. Thanks for the inspirational tutorial!!!

Yes, the sanmai was made exactly you can see in the photos. It was heated to 1.200 º C (2.192 F) and then hand-pressed in the vice. If the temperature is enough and the surfaces are clean, it is easy.

Thank all you very much for your comments.

Really cool. I agree, your achievment with relatively modest tools is really inspiring. Love the san mai!

Pretty sure if I spend the rest of my life working on knives it will never look as good as this. Amazing write up man!
