You've all seen my prison shanks by now, and I was wondering how I could add a nice looking handle to them? So far I've thought about wrapping an athletic tape around the handle, wrapping a tennis-raquet replacement grip around the handle (kind of expensive), or making some 2-halved piece of wood and then drilling some holes in the knife and bolting the wood to the handle. I might also consider gorilla-gluing the handle together, although I'm worried that the handle will break during combat. Can someone point me to a good handle making tutorial, or better yet post some suggestions here?

I smell bait. It's been a long time since we heard from Tom and Gerry...

;)

Rob!

There is no way to add a "nice looking handle" to those things.

...shouldn't this thread, and his other be getting locked? :thumbdn:

i get a strange feeling from this guy, feel like hes looking for someone to help him with his shivs, like some kinda sting op or something. amybe im just parinoid. probably the latter.

ohhh  i thought he meant a quality hand made knife with a hidden or full tang, not a big nail or a piece of glass. yeah... that is pretty crazy.

Tape on a piece of good hardwood, then you can finally heat treat the knife by tossing the whole thing in a barbecue grill.

First learn how to make a "knife" and not a shiv or a metal pointed object that I myself wouldn't even use to practice throwing. Even my worst knife or a knife I forged out of a piece of re-bar looked as crappy as yours. How old are you anyways?

Agreed. But does one really need to spend time on a handle for a murder weapon that the user is going to toss away right after its used for intended function anyway?

I at first decided to ignore aer6b9's posts about civilizational, poor craftsmanship, death, self-defence and the purpose of a knife. It is the consensus on the forum's that you are 12-13 years old, it doesn't really matter if you are 12 or 22 or 62.

I consider myself to be an aspiring knife maker, I have been researching metallurgy, heat treatment of steel, and all round traditional knife making techniques. I seldom tell my friends about the projects I am working on in my shop (mainly O1 bushcraft knifes) , because the common response is that I am going to become an axe murderer or a bank robber/serial killer.

Naturally, I am delighted in sharing some of my new-found knowledge, especially since reading up on traditional handles from the Netherlands; crafting beautiful tools if my goal and I hope that others share this passion too.

Only once ever have I said that I am 15 years old on these forums, because the average 15 year old also has a twisted view on the use and craft of knifes, swords, balisongs and shanks come to mind.

After going through countless dead posts in the knife maker's gallery, I was shocked to see how may replies the poorly made murder weapon got on the other page.

If you do decide to come over to our side (quality tools) you can help show the world that knives don't need to be banned.

thanks.

Sorry, guys, I just found out that this user had discovered Bladeforums.com. He is actually a Medieval Live action roleplayer and has been hammering the forum for the game about knifemaking. I didn't know that he had migrated here.

He is a troll and has been so annoying on the other forum that he is all but banned. I have no idea how old he is but I have been trying to help him (before I realised he was not interested in really learning).
