this summer i am planning to make a knife. it will use s-7 steel. i want it FULL TANG, not hidden, not through. i want it to be in the 7-9 inch length as it will be a survival knife.(will make a small neck knife if i have enough steel leftover). i would like it to be drop point as it is better for batoning but i am willing to change that. whatever it is i definitely do not want a swedge. however my problem is that i am not the most creative person ever and i cannot think of a design. there are no prizes or anything i just want some help thinking of design(pictures greatly appreciated). if you have a knife that you think fits the bill then post it or if you have an idea post that too. try to at least do a drawing but if its in enought detail i may be able to do it myself.

Just copy the standard Ka-Bar, but maybe put a FFG on it instead if you don't care for the swedge.

I went through this just this last fall, and honestly the way I went about it was find pic's of knives that I liked the shape of. The drew a rectangle about the dimensions I wanted, then drew (make sure you have a good eraser on hand) a mutated version of the blades I liked until it looked right. I then worked it down on the grinder, I knew it is were it needed to be when "it felt right".

I would recommend the shoptalk sub forum, there is more than enough info in the sticky's to get you started.

Hope that helps at least a little.

Based on the stock thickness I believe the tip is going to be rather obtuse without a swedge. But if you like it that way have it.

Like vaunripped said, draw out a rectangle, preferably one with the same ratio to the piece your working on. Then draw a basic shape of a knife and add details as you go. Thats how I do all mine

I would worry less about design and more about being good at making it, you will always find things you want to change. Get your first one done ASAP, and the design will evolve naturally as you use it and make more.
