Making Bali Handles???

Talked to my machinist yesterday and got myself some 303 stainless stock.

Being my first time and all, I thought I might mill out some modified handles based on my PC 68.

Will let everyone know how that works out.

Thinking of a Tanto blade style to go with the works but haven't worked that part out yet. Want to finish the handles, make a blade to fit the equation and then go back and balance the whole thing out.

Wish me luck! I'm sure gonna need it.

Anybody ever made a file blade?

Kind regards,

The post that never dies, hehe, every time I think its just about to go off the screen somone posts a new little bit, anyways, has anyone considered taking several sheets of say aluminum and wrapping them together to make a thicker handle, and then pinning the four corners and skeletonizing (possibly with sanding to give it a rounded appearance)? This would do away with the mess of bolsters and inserts, and give you a kinda unique looking knive, plus if it starts looking real horrible, just cut a new peice take out the pins and replace the top layer, ehh? I think I am going to try this next.

With those thick road signs I've been using, it wouldn't take but two sheets to make it as thick a a Jag's handles. You couldn't just 'wrap them together' though. But, you know, an all aluminum handle might not be so bad an idea. Instead of bolsters and wood, I could just cut another piece of aluminum, epoxy and pin it to the liner I already have, and cut/file/sand it flush. I'm gonna have to do some thinking on this...

Stu, that is exactly what I meant, hehe, yeah, taked the second one and wrap it around the first then pin them together, the only hard part about it is putting in the fourth pin on the side where it latches to, have to cut the latch to accomadate the pin or drill the holes very close to where the opening is in the handle kinda like the FHM's

For a minute there, I thought you were talking about wrapping the handles with aluminum foil.

"US patent 4364174: Apparatus and improved method of manufacturing handles for butterfly defense knife" Print out this info, read and understand it, and you will have just about anything you'd want to know about machining the handles for a butterfly knife. Until I read this I had no idea they TIG welded the pins into the handles........Time to fire up the Lincoln SquareWave 175. Also liked the explanation about the nylon 'friction device'. Thanks Wallphone, you did good!

Rylorien, you wouldn't have to rely on pins for strength. Two screws or pins down the center would be plenty after using a good strong epoxy.

I have some J. B. Weld and it is an amazing metal epoxy. I would trust that to hold together the aluminum without any screws.

I plan on trying this after my current project.
