Making Bannock

Is bannock like fried sweet bread? my isp will take all night to see the vid. I heard Bryan talking about bannock and wonder if its like the hoecakes we do here "down south" you know...

The great thing about bannock is you can put just about anything in it. You can, fry it, bake it , or steam it.

I made a bannock grilled cheese & pepperoni sammich a couple of weeks ago in a skillet on the kitchen stove. I watched MaddyTheGoose's YouTube video one last time and couldn't resist anymore. Used a basic recipe of flour, baking powder, salt, & water, if I recall correctly. Used some ColbyJack cheese snack sticks and regular ol Hormel pepperoni. Prepped the pan with butter. Mmm mmm good. :D

Wow is that your first time making bannock......it came out perfect.

your ash cakes need work though, lol

Made my first bannock this weekend.

Saw the technique on Youtube. Still need some practice, but it came out great.

Bannock is the simplest bread . Originally it used sourdough starter , flour water, salt and was wrapped around a stick and cooked over a fire. The definition obviously has broadened quite a bit.
By the way if you don't have baking powder or sourdough starter you could easily make flatbread [flour, water , salt] forming a thin disk and cooking it in a pan.

Yep,

Also have made great pepperoni rolls in the fire using bannock mix but no pics.

Bannock mix flavored with powdered vanilla soy milk and with foraged blueberries and cranberries added

Plain bannock except made w/buckwheat flour and with rolled oats added

The folding bowls that Joezilla turned me onto are ideal for bannock making. I have made bannock way more since owning one cause you can mix the doe up, unfold the bowl and then roll out the dough.

HD what is that cook set that you use? That pan / lid looks like what I might be interested in getting.
