Making Belt Grinder need help

I hate to be a wet blanket on this party, but that sure looks a lot like a motor with NO dust protection. I'm thinking it's not going live long in an environment filled wih conductive steel dust everywhere.

well, im a weakend warior and will be doing it out side. i hope the dust will not be to bad. i was also thinking about putting some type of filter on to the open parts, will that cause a heat problem? also i found a perfect disk, i know it's not as nice as yours, not even close. its the turn table from an old record player, its not real thick but it like a hear under 9" around 8 15/16 so its perfect. being that its light im going to mount it to the large flywheel for weight induced tork.
i know im taking the easy way out but i dont have the time or money for a real flywheel right now, i need to sell some knives first.

ok now that my grinder is working and looks good what can i use to atatch the grinding paper to the disk? i need somthing that comes off easy?

3M super77 spray adhesive works good. Heat it up with a blow dryer or heat gun to take it off.

whats a good grit of paper to use on a disk ginder for shaping, i have allwase used around 40 but i used a belt sander

There are several sanding disc adhesives available. These will allow you to remove and reapply many discs. I can do 10 or more. I use Franklin, 3m has feathering disc adhesive, Napa auto supply has a similar product. I saw the Franklin sanding disc adhesive at harbor freight. As I stated earlier I use 9x11 sheets and trim them to fit the disc. I start with 40 grit and go from there.

I was thinking thay could be used for a belt grinder. there solid aluminum and have some kind of roller berrings inside the hub.

I've only used the peel & stick disks on my disk grinder, but I think most of the guys that use sheet abrasive use the paper backed stuff. The cloth backed will likely be more trouble to trim to size. The good news is that HF is good about refunds if you decide to go with paper backed.

Try the cloth back stuff. It may work fine, just be prepared to work a little harder trimming to the disc. The wheels look like they have bronze bushings, at least from my view. If they are then they would not last nearly as long as sealed bearings. if you are going to build a belt some time you should get better idler wheels or modify those to accept bearings. I have found that the work involved in modifying or making some items is just not worth it. For me time is money. SOme will spend an hour to save a dollar. I can't afford to do that. So it all depends on what you want and how much time vs money you have.
