Been experimenting with filing how do you guys make your file work stand out!

That is beautiful work. I have been thinking of tearing into one of my opinels to try my hand at a more basic filework pattern. I currently do not have a vise to hold the blade into position. Sorry that I can't comment on how I make it stand out. Again, really nice work.

That's just a peice of scrap mild steel ! Do I use colored epoxy or paint it and use clear epoxy?I used a sharpie on this piece and it really made it look better

Would a scrap piece of aluminum be a good starting point to try a few designs, considering the softness of the naterial? Also, what file set should be had when doing thus type of work. It seems that you're ready for the big leagues from the pic above.

Aluminum clogs files rapidly. It's not a good choice.
Rather than painting or filling file work, the professional thing to do is POLISH the cuts to a mirror finish.
Or, you could make your knives stand out by not doing file work. It's way over-used.

Once heat treated the carbon would stay in the groves ( like the sharpie)
But don't know how long it will last over time.
Just an idea

Looks good!

You might use some colored epoxy to make your file work stand out like this. Larry

Amen to that.

S. Cox, Thanks for the compliment. I just epoxied the knife together with black pigmented epoxy and ground the scales down to the file work. You just have to put a little extra epoxy along the spine when clamping it together and smear some into the file work next to the bolsters if you have them. Larry

Could you etch it then grind the flats?

Yes you can. I have quite often polished and gold plated inside the filework. That makes it really stand out!
