Making G-10 scales for my BK14 Part 3 (Pic heavy!)

Excellent work! Just as I expected. Now if you can figure out how to do it without cutting into the knife, then you can sell ton of them for the right price. Good job man, very good.

That's the thing. To make scales like this, by hand is exactly the same as making scales for a custom knife. The slabs are bolted onto the tang and then shaped down to the metal to get a precise fit. That means whatever finish is on the knife goes bye-bye.
But if you're stripping the knife or re-finishing it anyway, as I did, than it's no big deal. Just part of the process.
If I were to make these for someone the would get their knife back with no finish on the edges of the tang and spine.
However, their knife would have the tang and spine finished down to 400 grit with no more machine marks!

Very good work.I wish kabar had aftermarket scales just like that.G-10 and micarta are my
two favourite handle materials, great colour, well suited.

I think Sharp was talking about the dremel work to anchor the lower bolt to the tang.

Just noticed that. I did that on mine to index the scales in place. It was the simplest way for me to do it.
I did it with a 1/4" file. Steel wasn't as hard as I would have thought.

Those are REAL nice and the knife looks 100% better with them on it. I'm really digging that green color....

Man those look nice! I would love a set, would have to get a 14 first. I think they would look good on a BK2 also though!
