I've never made a sheath before and I guess it's time to start. What is the ideal weight of leather to use and can you use 10 oz. leather to make a decent sheath. Also can anyone recomend a video for making leather sheaths. Thanks for the help. Dave

I also recomend Chuck Burrows video on sheath making. He goes along very slow and carefully explains the steps with good camera angles. Within the first minute I allready discovered two steps I was doing wrong.

Digger,
Gonna take the plunge into sheathmaking huh?? Hopefully you will like doing it and use it as a componate to your knifemaking...And if ya hate it?? Well there are always guy's like me to take up the slack!:D

Anywho...I havent watched Chuck's video yet, but several people whose opinion I respect think highly of it, so I would follow the above guy's suggestion on it!

Yuppers 10oz leather for the larger blades and around 6-7oz for the smallish blades

Start out on the simpler designs (pouch) and go from there...

There are a bunch of tutorials around if ya need some help, and if you have questions please PM me and I will do what I can

Here is one by B. Evans...It is more or less how I do that type....http://www.homestead.com/beknivessite2/pouchsheath.html
