Besides canvas and denim micarta, what other types are there that can be made at home? How does one go about making them? Thanks for any help,Keith

How about fur? Never seen that yet!! :D Actually, I'm going to try some burlap here shortly so hopefully it will go well for me.

i made some out of denim last week using bondo fiberglass resin, there are some pics of the results on my other post, it came out pretty cool looking. the thing i hope you learn from my mistake is not to put in to much hardener (i didn't compensate for texas heat and put suggested amount and working time was about 2 minutes instead of 12) and there were some chunks of resin in my slab resulting in an uneven pattern when sanded and some hidden pockets of resin that appeared as large black dots on the finished product. other than that the slabs i made felt and looked ok.... i used this link for instructions http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21836
good luck

also wear an apron or some clothes you dont mind killing accidentally, my new 5.11 pants learned the hard way and had to suffer for my ignorance. - Mitch

heres a pic of my finished slab (its small cause i already cut a set of scales out of it) i used the method in the link in my earlier post. i didnt use 22 layers as suggested i only got to put 15 cause the resin was hardening but it ended up just under a half inch thick... i guess my jeans were thicker...
