Making/Modifying a knife for Dave Canterbury

Great job, and well executed. After watching your vids, I keep eyeballing the old Dexter 6" cleaver hanging in the corner.

Dexter Russell? What kind of steel is used?

We use a ton of DR industrial knives at work. They say "Dexsteel" which I haven't been able to find anything about. I sharpened up a bunch of them the other day on my break and they have an incredible knack for chipping even though they are pretty flexible and soft. Not exactly a "quality".

No clue what the steel is. It's a model 5096 and it says Dexter on the handle. I would say it's at least 40 years old. I found it in a shed when I was first married, over 30 years ago, and it was old then. I've used it as a camp chopper for kindling and it has held up well for that.

Here are a few pictures of the finished knife I made for Dave Canterbury over at the Pathfinder School. It is a modified Old Hickory butcher knife. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
