Making Mokume from 1010, 1085 and copper

Cool stuf
Ariel
will you be keeping the pictures hosted? I'd like to put this on the Knife making site if you don't mind?

Just made a billet and waitng for it to cool so I can see the results. Thanks for sharing Ariel.

Jim

Well the billet turned out fair. I did it in a canister Burke built for me and think I packed it to tight with steel. My press runs pretty fast so I squeezed out most of the copper leaving a hair line of copper so will kiss block the next one. However a 15 min heat at 2150 F worked just like Ariel described. Tomorrow is another day. A real simple project that warrants more of my time and experience.

Thanks again for the kind words, they encourage me to make more of these type of threads. I will be making a full size tutorial of this later this week.

Adding a mokume pin to make the handle even more secure (and to decorate it a little bit more)

Fantastic and inspiring! I love these threads....I showed this one to some people to show them just how "raw" the materials that are used can be!

Can anyone tell me what the handle material is? I like it. Would look great as a bolster with bone.
Thank you,
Matt Doyle

Well,I'm pretty sure it's bluejean material, kind of like the knife Ariel made me...
