making my first hawk

i found a pelvic bone of a cow that s pretty much shaped like a hatchet or atleast close enough to where i can grind it down with a dremmel tool for a hatchet and a nice piece of hickory i found while making burn piles can you guys give me any advice on staining the handle and maybe something for the bone so it doesnt look so bland?

I use Feibings leather dye for everything. Works for wood, bone, ivory, and of course leather ;-))
