Making my first knife.

Wow that is a beast of a blade :D

I too look forward to seeing it finished , looks like it would do great in the field.

Sam, that full flat grind was only due to Jarod of JT customs being there to do it. he kept getting it looking nice then he would hand it to me to try and I would mess it up. Really have to pay attention when using a belt sander.

Keithcellini, it is actually much lighter in the hand that it looks. I am actually hoping to add a bit of weight to the handle with the scales to give it a balance point right at the ricasso. Right now it is about 1 inch in front of that.

Bigfattyt, you ever want to get together and talk knives, i've been building a few. small grinder, drill press, that sort of thing. mhharmon@comcast.net

I might have to take you up on that. I am looking at some micarta scales for the handle, and would need to drill them. I have a hand drill, but drilling straight with one has never been my strong point.

Great Job. How in the heck do you post pictures in here?

get a host to keep the pictures in. I use Photobucket (it is free). upload the photos there, then click on the icon with the mountain in the options above. copy the line on photobucket that says Direct link. then paste it in the line that pops up when you click on the mountain icon above (when you post a reply or start a thread there are options above the message box).

You are a lucky bloke to have built a great first knife that size. I also recomend that blokes make a smaler one to get started. That is more relivant if you had to file the whole thing. If you have somone to help you get started with a belt sander go for it.
Well done

For sure Reg Ellery. If I had to hand file that beast it would have taken forever. The next knife I am planning is going to have about a 2.5 inch blade. A small utility because I am going to have to use my files to make it. No power tools at all.
