I was wondering if anyone here has ever made there own Indian Mocs or even better boots? I would like to try it. Can anyone give me some info on were to get information on this? I think that would be a great thing to know in a survival situation.

Here is a great Moc tutorial, if you don't mind buckskin soles. I want to make a high top pair with latigo soles.

If you do be sure to find a good buckskin to use. Its actually really durable. You can get them wet they dry pretty fast. Over a short period of time theyll get really comfortable as they stretch to your foot. If theyre a little snug at first dont worry. Buckskin is fairly elastic. I'd actually sole the bottoms with old tire tread or something similiar. If you wear them over rough surfaces they'll wear away rather quickly.

Thanks guys, that helped alot! Im glad to see that im not the only one who has thought about this. They seem so comfortable to me and If im ever in the wild they would be almost as important to know about how to make them as almost as getting food and water.

Tell you the only thing I know about wearing moccasins...they're pretty good in snow, especially dry snow. The suede side seems to get a fair bit of grip even on packed-down snow bridges.

But I think you would wreck that particular property if you wore them on rocks etc...would get that smooth, slippery texture mine got after I wore them inside the cabin too much.

I read somewhere you can fix that with a wire brush, but I had already torn mine on a nail and they were never a great fit to begin with...little small for winter, couldn't fit a lot of sock in there.

Anyway they're a surprisingly good snow boot.

Never thought about making them but I've often thought that in a long term survival situation, good shoes would be hard hard hard to come by. Maybe I'd try making mocs myself!
