what is the best resin to use . if someone out there can help me that would be great.

If you're going to do this yourself, probably epoxy because you can get a room temp cure epoxy that will have pretty fair properties.

Moved to knifemakers forum.

do a search on here. there are many threads on this. someone once said marine grade epoxy or something like that.

Yeah, a marine supply store is what I was going to suggest. Can't give you a specific brand. Don't get "5-minute epoxy". It has lower properties and sets up too fast to work with. Get the one that advertises an 8-hour cure or an overnight cure. The resin will be stronger and you will have more time to work with it after you catalyze it.

I use fiberglass resin from WMart. Works very well and is easily obtained. Polishes well on the buffer also. Hotter your work area is the faster the stuff sets up. Mess aound with some old jeans. Looks pretty cool.

for micarta polyester resin will work just fine. you can get it from wallyworld or an auto parts store. For a real superior epoxy resin that will bond anything, is impervious to chemicals, crystal clear, and super strong, try West systems epoxy. Because of the variety of projects I build I keep over 5 specific epoxies and 12 other adhesives in my shop, and I have used at least another 10 dedicated epoxies. Of these epoxies the 2 that I cant do with out are West System epoxy marine resin, and Smooth-on. The Smooth-on is a high strength epoxy that is thick and yellow, not to good for micarta. West Systems I have used it for Micarta as well as stabilizing Brazilian walnut and is a high strength adhesive.
As a humorous note when I built my first boat, my learning project for the West System epoxy. I managed to glue the boat, sawhorse, a Nicholson rasp, a hammer and the concrete driveway in to one homogeneous lump. I saved the boat and the hammer. The driveway still has a 6" hole, and the rasp has a 6" chunk of concrete bonded to it.

You know the rule. We must have pics of all of it. :D
