Making points pointer.

I have a sharpmaker and a alummine oxide stone.

I have been trying to put a better point on my buck knife, but I can't seem to do it.

So my question is,
How can I sharpen a non-tanto point?

I have a little set of small round ceramic rods that when stored sit side by side in a little holder. To sharpen a dulled tip, I run it down the center of the two rods. This puts a nice little grind on each side of the point and the round edges of the rods make it sort of concave ground. It works for me, anyway.
