Here are my first 4 :o. Ground from A-2 and 01 and heat treated in a 2 brick forge (currently setting up a gas forge from IG.) Thanks to you all, especially IG and Lamont Coombs, for the tips and information, and I would appreciate your comments and critisizms.

Nice work Dick! I find it weird though they get thicker the shorter the blades :D, shouldn't it be the other way around?

Those look good for your first knives. Take a longer look at the transition between the handle and the blade; thin the handles down a bit.

Nice job overall. I would take one to the woods with me anytime.:)

Sam - I got a small gas forge from IG last week and picked up an anvil today. Before long I'll be able to thin them down like you do - with a big hammer :D

Fred - I see what you mean - I always thought handles would be the easy part :o

69 - I heated to non-magnetic and quenched in oil, same as with the o1. The blade seems to take a good edge, but I'm going to need to get together with a real knifemaker to help me test for toughness.

I am by no means a real knife maker but I am in Bangor send me a message if you want to get together.
