So this is it finished. I think it turned out awesome. Thank you guys for your help.

Frowned on???? that depends on what you are calling "fiberglass resin". The best resin for fiberglass is epoxy resin. West system 105 with 206, 207, or 209 hardener is the what is best to use.

Polyester resin is too soft and wears to a dull finish soon.

I'll have to look into the west systems. Mine was the cheap bondo stuff. I have witnessed the dulling of sheen but not so much the softness to it. I buff it with a lot of pressure and it seems to create a hard shell.

Like JT said, soak materials in resin then twist it, place in press and clamp down. Should come out a crazy and stuff

I'll have to dry this. Should I roll up say, pencil sized pieces then overlay with a flat piece or just make a big loose roll and slam it in the press?
 
Big roll and slam it, might want to put less hardner in it so you have time to layer and roll then press
