Making Sheathes from Faux Leather.

I’m trying this for my next vegan leather sheaths. I have used a couple of different vinyls before. Had some good results, just with a bit more work than with leather. I have been vegan for years, but prior to this I made leather sheaths.
The link is to an etsy item, which i’m trying out next for vegan leather sheaths. This is 2mm thick, which looks to be the best i’ve found so far.
Previously i’ve had to laminate the vinyl prior to pattern cutting to get the correct thickness.
Let me know how you get on.
Oh, and the comment about using the whole of the animal after it’s death etc… firstly, yeah sure, if that’s required for your own existence, which in 2022 it’s not, but moreover, just respect that some folks simply don’t want to use a part of an animal, regardless of how humanely it died.
Would you use human body parts for something, so long as they died humanely?

if you must use something other than leather you need to think of the

Environmental effect

The production of the PVC used in the production of many artificial leathers requires a plasticizer called a phthalate to make it flexible and soft. PVC requires petroleum and large amounts of energy thus making it reliant on fossil fuels. During the production process carcinogenic byproducts, dioxins, are produced which are toxic to humans and animals.[6] Dioxins remain in the environment long after PVC is manufactured. When PVC ends up in a landfill it does not decompose like genuine leather and can release dangerous chemicals into the water and soil

Maybe check out all the sites that process leather. I know many of them were shut down due to the chemicals used and how they were disposed of them.

This is going to be interesting. A sheath for this Boker of Truhide kydex is in the works, made by a craftsman who has made several sheaths for me. His work is top notch.
