making steel

I live in panton vermont and we have alot of very high quality iron ore just across the lake. there is alot of in Ny the mines ar losed now but its very easy to find hunks of ore anyway I was wondering if any one knows where I can find out how to turn it into steel I 've always wanted to make a knife completely from start to finish like that

Go to Don Fogg's site, join his knife forum, then look in the thread "Bloomers and Buttons"
also join the Early Iron discussion group (go to Wareham Forge's website, http://www.warehamforge.ca/) and ask Darrell to allow you to join the group.

Dude, Welcome to Bladeforums, fill out your profile, Vermolnt (your spelling not mine) is a relatively big state, in your future posts you may be asking for help with something, and if your profile is properly filled out you might get an offer from a smith "just down the street" who saw where you are located , and realizing that you are a neighbor figured it easier to show you than to try to explain it in words
