Sorry for the late response, for some reason i did not get a mail about new posts.
HH is correct, they use a wire or thin blade coated in the slurry(an oil with SiC in it). It slices the silicon very effectively, and extremely accurately.
As for the polished metal railings. The backing they use here would most probably be hands with gloves on them, covered with a light dusting of SiC.
I asked my dad for more information and accurate numbers, he is going to check it out for me. He is fairly certain that he has the correct information, but he doesn't want me feeding you guys false information
(He doesn't work at the actual factory where they cut the wafers, he is the production manager in the factory where they make the slurry (they are two completely different companies))
