This knife has more errors then I'd like to say and it turned out NOTHING like the original plan. You have to keep a sense of humor.:)
Overall length: 14"
Blade length: 9.5"
Forged 1084 w/ real abalone handle!!!
Accidental hamon. Wasn't planning on it.

Looks great Dave. How do you do that? My accidents still look like accidents! Kev

The knife was supposed to be a carving knife with a stag handle.
I forged the cutting edge just right but the spine was to thick and heavy.
When I ground the blade I took to much off the spine removing the distal taper and leaving the blade to thin but straightened. When I heat treated the blade I couldn't afford to remove much stock so I tried a liquid compound called ATP-641 to reduce Decarb. After the edge Quench I noticed the Hamon so I Tried PCB Etchant.
So After a while of trial and ERROR It was finished.
The knife was flexing too close to the handle and it did not meet my expectations. So I decided to put on the funky abalone. Its balance is perfect.
It will be a real conversation piece:eek:

Kevin Call me up. Id like to have you come over to the shop!!!
