Making the switch to gas grilling? Opinions/advice?

My gas stove has an INFRARED broiler .Fast efficient ! Someone out there makes a portable IR Grill .

My introduction to gas grills was a small George Forman that worked just fine for the two of us or perhaps a few more. They mostly seem to be electric now last time I looked at his grill products. I have moved on since then... things wear out. I honestly really like the small gas grills for their portability. The small grill can be a life saver in an emergency or to take to family gatherings at parks. The really good small ones seem to be geared toward RV camping. I like cooking with gas and seldom ever use charcoal anymore. (Only use charcoal when my wife's daughter comes as she "hates gas grills".... :D)

Spend some time in the Middle East and you probably won't really like that charcoal flavor after that experience.

I'm leaning towards a really good portable gas grill for those reasons actually. It'll be a good introduction and we can take it with us. If I love it I'll upgrade to a larger one but still have a great portable grill.

Personally I can't find enough difference in the cooking results to see a reason to go for Charcoal over Gas in a typical home cooking environment. I do want to say though that if you are wanting to "grill" in the winter and/or mostly needing to do quick grilling then for an actual grill Gas is best but you might can also get away with a stove top grill patterned griddle. I would go with a cast iron on those if possible so you can also use it in the oven. It will never be quite the same as grilling but is an option as a secondary to your charcoal grill.

If you're anywhere near Arlene, TX, look up a man named Hank Hill. He'll tell you everything you'll ever need to know about propane grills.

I prefer the convenience of gas grills now. You can use them effectively in the winter time when charcoal grills are generally not hot enough. Revival of an old thread. I wonder if BMC got his small grill and how he liked it?
