Making the transition from collector to user

I have been a long time collector of some of the more expensive folders out there, and have generally limited my "users" to knives around $100 or less. But after recieving my new XM-24 spanto today, I have decided to put this beautiful specimen to use rather than stuffing it in the safe with the others. I am very excited to finally say I am a "Hinderer user", and I'll be more than happy to do a little report on this bad boy after 6 months or so. Thanks again to Pineapplegrenade for the awesome blade! She came NIB, and ready for action! Comment if you would like! :)

Congrats! I know how you feel. I have been into customs for a long time now, well seems like a long time for a young fella. I have always used them though, I just could not help myself, which was awful when it came time to sell or trade!! It is worth it to enjoy the knife in my mind! My wallet did not think the same way! Enjoy that awesome knife! Just don't break into your custom collection though, don't start using them all!!!

Being both a collector and one who carries I know how you feel. I have an Alan Davis that I mainly carry but he has made me a couple more that he wanted me to carry and I just can't do it. He has been after me for awhile but the one he did in some rare stag is just to nice 😁😂. Enjoy. Kevin

If I was a knife maker I would wholeheartedly want someone that owned my knife to carry it and use it as much as possible. It would honestly hurt my heart to see someone put my creation--what I put all my knowledge, skills, time, and effort into--in a drawer, only to be admired or fondled every so often. I'd want someone to USE it and heck, maybe even abuse it. I'd want that person to be able to tell me all the adventures and memories that knife has been apart of with them. That's just me though. Glad you found a good knife that you want to carry and use. Enjoy it :)

I've not been able to make myself step into the "collector" state of mind. I've bought a couple knives in the past that were "collector grade" or investment type knives, and I wanted to use them so bad that I had to sell them before I ruined the value. I've since taken to buying used knives of collector-grade description, as they've already taken the price hit, and I know I can use them without feeling bad.

Couple collectibles that I carry often: William Henry Gen-tac, BM 730CFHS, Kershaw 3600, ZT 0600, CRKT Hi-Jinx. Not way up there in value, but pretty pricey for me.

Nice! So great to hear about similar experiences from all of you! Just sliced through my first cardboard box. Man it felt good. Cant wait to get into some wood later this week!

Soooo true GM!! I am a fanatical pool player.....have been for 35 years! Met a custom cue maker about 15 years ago and he's made me gorgeous custom cues.....with the stipulation that I use the snot out of them!! He wants feedback on how they hit so he can improve the playability of them.
He actually has only sold a few collectibles......cues over $5,000.....and it always bothers him.
