Material isfossil mammoth ivory
Order code R-fmam 9.7oz 311(use when inquiring so we be on the same sheet of music!)
Dimensions 9.5 inches long x 3 wide at widest and 2 inches at narrowest x a uniform ¼ thick.
Weight 9.7 ounces
Traditionally used how? Assume buyer will cut into knife scales guards pommels etc. Should be enough material for 2 full size sets.
Properties attributes This is not outer bark but the next inner layer. As such it is ok but will not have the hadrness of bark but will take a polish. Ideally one might want to stabilize scales made. Not necessary, but if one seeks perfection. The price reflects the quality, which would be much higher if this were bark.
Personal story-- connection This material came from a tusk I acquired in Manley Hot springs Alaska from one of the miners I know there. In the process of mining for gold it is common to find ancient fossils. This has been out of the ground and well dried for 4 years. There should be no adjustment issues, bt it is always wise to let any fossil material adjust to a new environment. I suggest putting in zip lock bag and keep in a cool dry place for a week or so. Let it out of the bag and keep an eye on it once a week if it beings to crack run super glue in the hairline crack to seal it. Or even run super glue along the ends and edges as a precaution when you get it. But anyhow most of you probably know what to do with your ivory.
Price $60 about $100 a pound This piece sold
