So I do a lot of abalone diving, and have lots if shells. How do you get them to be usable slabs?

They use laser to cut the shells into super thin slices then combine/layer the slices with glue. Abalone's natural texture make it hard to tell, but if you check it closely you can see the seams in the abalone sheet.

This end product abalone sheet is very thin, also known as seashell paper, and is used as veneer on furniture. I have never seen it used for knife scales outside of this forum, because it needs to be thick enough. such as 1/4 inch, which is 5 times thicker than the type of seashell paper that I know.
