He's allowed Danny.:p ;) I ,for one, would like to see Simon bring his knowledge of khukuris to us as long as he didn't promote his own ware's or run HI's down. Methinks we could learn quite a lot from Simon.:D

And then again maybe he is out to snag an UBBB. There are several items that would appeal too most everyone methinks, the Swords and the Seax for a couple of examples.:D
Wonder why there aren't any Falcatas coming through... Were they discontinued or what?

Hey, I agree with that. I would be sharking for UBBB's if I were Simon. A good deal is a good deal, no ifs and or buts.
(I own a khukuri house Khukuri, but never bought a Tora. Never saw one for sale on ebay or anything... so I have no opinion about them at all.)

My hope is that everything is for the good. My Tora is great. If Simon can sell and keep that level of quality up, HI will not be alone.

Market success is based upon demand. I don't think Yangdu is going to allow HI to become Number Two

Hello Everyone,

I'm always looking, but I'm sort of not welcome, I havn't had a confirmation from Rusty or Bill that I can join in. So to keep the etiquette correct I have been looking but not participating in some great little posts.
Of course I'm always looking for a bargain, I realy quite fancy one of the Janges and an M43 around 25oz.

Any way keep the great posts going and when I'm aloud back I would love to join in.

Cheers everyone

I like those Janges too! Hope you can come back and join in!

I agree with Yvsa that Simon's knowledge of khukuris, ghurkhas, etc. would be invaluable to H.I.'s forumites. Besides, he's a real gentleman, and has passion for the hobby.

If Simon didn't "toot his own horn" as it were, I'd really like to see him welcomed back. We all remember 'repeat offender trolls' being invited back... Simon is certainly not in this category, and I'm sure would abide by the rules if he joined our ranks once again ;)

Personally, I don't care but I'm leaving all decisions like this to Rusty because he' stuck with the majority of the forum work these days.

Two things Simon...

1. Bruise gets first dibs on all 24 oz M43s
2. YYou can always email me pics of kohei ;)

I guess so Yvsa. I've been trying to get one for the past year. I have managed to get almost everything on the "past blade runs" page that I missed, and have been lucky enough to get a Seax and a YCS now, a Balance from Donuts and a fullerless HI Bowie, and am in line with you for a FF, but I believe the Falcatta's were mostly made by that young kami (who's name escapes me; "Sanu"?) who took off. Unfortunately I have not a single example of his work.

Only thing other than that I don't have is an 18th century, but I'm not interested in the one without the cross-hatches on the blade, as it seems just like a WWII to me.

Also managed to get a couple of swords from private sellers, but never was able to score the Himalayan model. (As opposed to the Katanas and Tibetan and Napolean.) Steve had a beautiful wood handled one shown in his raffle for Ram that was very well done and very unique as far as the handle was concerned.

I hope to buy or trade for a Falcatta someday, as they are really impressive pieces of work.

Regards,

Norm

I too would really like to see HI making these again... I think Nasty & a few others have one. They had really nice scabbard work. Celtic father of the Khuk! Feared by Romans, had to be a good thing.

hey danny, i posted this elsewhere on bladeforums, but ive been meaning to post it here specifically for you if you havent seen it. didnt really know how to make it into a thread of its own, so i'll just post it here

I would like to point out to everyone an issue about Sirupati, having nothing to do with his knowledge of khuks or his being a good guy.
Bill and Rusty have been good to Simon- I posted my review of a Tora blade Simon gave me for evaluation. I am hard on khuks and Simon took a chance.

But think about this- Bill built his business on word of mouth and quality, not to mention a heaping helping of good will. Simon has a fledging business going in the same industry. If he posts here, he gets to tap into a free mailing list, free publicity that any would envy. He gets to do this without the years of work Bill put in.

I don't know any industry that would do this.
So, what is fair? I don't have to know. Would I like to hear from Simon with his different point of view regarding khuks? Sure. He does have his own forum for that, you know.

I'm glad I"m not Rusty. But I just thought I'd point this out to my fellow forumites.

You can also talk to Simon on British Blades forum

I have to completely and utterly agree with Munk. UB has shed blood/sweat/tears to get H.I up and running and create this competitive advantage.

that sword is insane!
Isnt it?
Man...

If Simon wants it he has an opportunity to tap into the mailing list here from the guys profiles anyway, but I don't think Simon is going to do that.
I like to think that Simon could post here and share his knowledge without it becoming a competitive issue.
And if Simon wished he could simply register under another user name and come post with us without us knowing who he is as long as there were no competitive issues.
Simon graciously left when Rusty asked him too the best I can remember, I don't think there were any hard feelings? Does anyone else recall?
And another thing that would prevent a competitive edge is that Simon isn't in the states so his shipping costs are going to be prohibitive for most of the folks here.
And from what I've read Simons Khuk's aren't as massive as the HI khuk's and are more for the martial arts than the hard assed use a lot of us put the HI khuks through.
Simons khuk's may stand up to that to a degree but it seems to me that I recall Simon saying they weren't really made for that.
So in my opinion it appears to be two seperate markets being portrayed.
But we all know what opinions are worth. It's all up to Rusty anyway and as always I abide by Rusty's decisions.:)

Monks quote." If he posts here, he gets to tap into a free mailing list, free publicity that any would envy. He gets to do this without the years of work Bill put in."

Well Munk , perhaps I hve misunderstood your comment? but I must say Having met Simon through this HI forum & kept in touch with him, then met up with him & Leanne, shared food & drink with them & stayed at thier place , it has reached the stage I regard him as a real friend,So I might be rather biased, but I have found him to be a knowledgable, enthusiastic, polite & friendly person, who realy does have passion for kukri & many other things besides. {Especialy Kohei! :D } I am sure he has his off days the same as any of us but, I realy dont think he would engage in spamming emails to HI forumites.

As Bill has layed this parcel at Rustys door,as the operational moderater, chief cook & gunslinger , I am certainly interested to hear Rustys veiw, on the return of Sirupate.

Personaly Rusty, I think Simon would add constructivly to this forum, But fully accept yours or others views may be different from mine.

I have no idea whether or not you've misunderstood me, and have little idea of what you are talking about. You've eaten food with him and this means? It was digested agreeably? The waiter was friendly?

Did you read my post?

This is not a question of good guy, bad guy, modest guy, indiscrete guy, amusing guy, knowledgable guy, ignorant guy, girly guy, meat eating guy, trike riding guy, or guy guy guy.

This is for Rusty and Bill. I like Simon fine. We get along well. I like Leanne very much, and she's not even a guy.

I've promoted Simon's business by virtue of a continuing honest report on his product; here, at Tora, and at British Blades.

I wrote very carefully about the situation in HI. I wanted a clear understanding of financial realities to be on the table, precisely because I did not want it to be a question of Good Guyhood. It is not. The thread was going in that direction and it was not fair to our friend Bill Martino to be placed in this postion.

(I don't really think he cares, though. He's a pretty Good Guy.)

Birgorkha is now the largest exporter of khukuris according to the government of Nepal. As such, it's best to err on the side of prudence rather than risk romewhere around 200 Nepali's rice bowls.

I see prudence as not rocking the boat, and I see no need to change the situation with Simon. Anyone knows to reach him at the web page or on the British Blades forum or through Kohei.
