I watched Man vs Wild last night for the first time in a while. Does anybody else think this show is a little bit too scripted?

He just happened to decide to go parachuting in the desert.

Then just happened to come across an ultra-light crash with loads of useful parts to build a "wind car"?

Not to mention just happened to be parachuting so he had a sail for it?

Don't get me wrong, plenty to be learned on the show. Just a bit too "convenient" for me. Anybody else see it this way?

all you have said has been establish long time ago.. and i agree with you..

for me, the worst part was throwing a rock with a makeshift bow then hang myself on it to cross the gap.. unless incredibly lucky.. how can a rock become a super strong ancor point that can hold a man weight.. the show is filled with those weirdness

Ya its TV it all is scripted to an extent no matter what show is on, its the entertainment business man. I think its better than half the garbage on even if it is crazy, unrealistic, and scripted.

This was only the second time I watched the show. The first time I shut it off after he decided he "had" to jump off a cliff into a river since it couldn't be crossed. Sorry, I don't jump into unknown water standing a foot in front of it on a good day. Not going to jump 20-30 ft into water I have no idea how deep or whats in it (no matter what the situation).

I like entertainment, but this IMO just isn't entertaining to me. I wouldn't think it would be for anybody with a clue in outdoor survival. Unless they want to be amused! Seems like this show is for the armchair survivalist. Which IMO could be very dangerous.

Are you saying you think it's...........fixed ?

NO WAY!

Of course! I just think its too fixed! To the point that the situations they attempt to portray are borderline useless or dangerous. I can't wait for some clown to go parachuting into the desert and then try to climb a cliff and hang himself up in a parachute!

I to watched it last night, and if you really watch you might pick up something useful.

Like when he made that willow bundle bow to shot that rock, he used the canadian jam knot. One of my most used knots in the bush!

Not sayin the shows any better, but at least there was one piece of info that was useful.

It is completely scripted. They did a behind the scenes episode, and many of the scenes are set up in advance for filming, BUT....... Bear does do all of the survival stuff legitimately, just on demand. He also does eat only what he catches, he lives the scenario he's placed in (the camera crews do a lot of that too), so he does have to go through the real deal. Scripted for sure, but so are all of the survival shows. And they all have a first aid backup team to keep them safe.
All that said, they could out survive 99% of the population on this planet, as they have, and practive, the skills.

I prefer Man, Woman, Wild....now if only Ruth England was as eager to naked as Bear Grylls is !:D

how about the fact that the camera crew is doing everything he is while lugging all their gear around, IMO they're more badass than he is

If I got paid big bucks to travel the world and play in all kinds of wild places, I'd be even more of goofball than he ever could dream of being. And even though his stunts are cheesy and all for show, I'd wager he knows a lot more about survival techniques than I do. I still wouldn't drink my own piss though.
