Man vs. Wild marathon

I know that, but how many hotels do you know that are in the middle of the amazon rain forest ;).

choc... you'd be surprised where you find hotels these day. Some years ago I was smack in the middle of the last remaining virgin rain forest/jungle in peninsular Malaysia, the 'Tamon Nergara' jungle. It took all day in a fast, high powered canoe, then several more hours of hand paddling up a smaller tributary... and came upon a luxury resort! The rich folk get ferried in by helicopter. Passed a floating trading post along the way selling bags of rice, kerosene, machetes, rope, salt, coffee, etc. to locals who'd paddle up in dugouts, .... and Kit Kat bars and coca cola.
You just never know what's behind the next bend! LOL!

I personally like Survivorman a little more, but I find both shows entertaining. which is after all what they are, entertainment. One can pick up some good ideas from both shows though, so long as you watch it knowing it's not meant to be a end all be all how to guide. The thing that pisses me off about Man Vs. Wild is that Bear often kills animals with no need to do so.... It's not like Survivorman where Les is actually in the wild for a week. Bear does get food and supplies, so I find it wasteful that Bear kills beautiful snakes and what not. My wife HATES Bear, but Les she can tolerate! That being said, she wasn't very happy last night with the marathon being watched : )

Anyone who likes Les should check out "Off the Grid with Les Stroud"

both shows are entertaining...i would love to see both of them doing a survival week or trek together; that would be a blast to watch...

I can only imagine-"Survivorman" giving "Bear" an enema made from the vines of the wild Amazuloo vine and then they dine on some carrion topped off with insects/vermin and freshly squeezed "water" from a 50 lb. mound of elephant dung.Lovely-I do watch both shows although I know just enough NOT to do what Bear does the most-it's almost a satire although Les is less sensational but he is a rotten fisherman-what's with the constant carrying of a harmonica on him when he could be carrying something far more useful/survival oriented?

..as my nephews would say.I guess a "tactical harmonica" is once piece of kit that i need to get inmy BOB!!:jerkit:

I really feel sorry for those poor blocks who go hike and venture in the wold just watching survivorman and man vs. wild but do not take any real lesson's how to work the wilderness for real. Things that work in TV don't really work in real...

I just watched this one, I think it was Survivorman in Discovery World:
Guitar trap? Like I would EVER carry a guitar with me to which I would then dug in ground to make a trap? And then he never even made simpliest snare trap from guitar strings he then had...

But we all need good laughs.

But both have nice knives...

what are the knives they use I think les stroud (soviorman) uses a buck 119 an a sak I think bear (man vs wild) uses a baily I'm not sure on eaither one but would like to know:confused:

After not knowing what you northeners were talkign about they are now showing Bear down here in Oz.

Amusing - just enough useful information to make it worh watching - and the children love it. On that basis it is better than watching a random movie

It is acutally one of the higher rating shows here at the moment (about 15th)

The thing that worries me as said earlier is his techniques are good television but not survival. The extreme risk taking (even though fake) sends the wrong message. Also in Oz a lot of survival, especially in the outback, involves staying put till found - or at most gettign to the nearest good location. Hiking off without leaving a clear trail is very dangerous - the cars are usually found well before the people.

For a laugh check the online debunking of bear's "remote" locations. he is obviously responding now by being clearer about when he recieves help - which to me adds to his credibility

Still if I was really dumped in a random location in the world, and really had to survive - he would be pretty close to the top of the list of people I would want with me! When it comes to the crunch he would know, and be able to do a great deal of useful things. A lot more than me.
