Man Vs. Wild Meet Man Vs. Munkfish

Isn't the anglerfish found in the twilight zone of the ocean? As in about 3,000 feet deep? It says in the story that the guy found the fish at about 40 feet.

they are found in quite shallow waters to very deep waters, like you mention.

It's a monkfish. Also called the anglerfish. We call em allmouths round here. They're found at all depths. Even down to 2,000+ feet. Tasty creatures. Very primitive and easy to clean. They just have a backbone.

Monkfish is one of my favorites to eat. Some people call them "poor man's lobster" because they taste like and have a similar texture to shell fish. This is not surprising since they eat crab and lobster. I, personally, would not like to wrestle one though. ;)

LoL... I think one of the last things that would run through my mind as a good idea while on scuba, would be to try and kill a 130lb monkfish with a knife. Figured the guy must have been narced, but was only at 40 ft... I've seen quite a few 6ft long tarpon and a couple of big eagle rays, Do you think a dogfather or battle mistress would be a good choice?

People get the absolute stupidist ideas sometimes. A friend of mine lassoed a buck deer one time. It was swimming the lake and he pulled up beside it in a boat and dropped the loop around it's neck the other end tied to the boat, then followed it to the bank. I really don't know what he expected would happen, but things got a bit crazy when the deer hit dry land. Chris
