I'm sitting here watching Man Vs. Wild and am waiting for the first appearance of his knife. All of a sudden he comes across a dead sheep. Oh boy!!! Here it comes.....the Gerber Gator again!!! I don't get it!! You have the knife that he endorses selling for $700 and he's running around Iceland with a Gerber Gator. Not that the Gator is a complete piece of crap, it really is not bad, but it seems to me like he would go out with a much better piece of steel. I guess maybe his crew carries back-ups for him:D

The funny part about it all that here we are sitting there WATCHING his show lol.
It was intresting to watch him get out of the hot pool to warm up and then i noticed his cloths are dry hey how did that happen so fast???

I love watching the show even though Bear does some really stupid stuff, it is still an outdoor adventure/survival show and better than some of the other crap on TV.

My kid said, "That is the stupidest thing he has ever done". I reminded him it is just T.V.

I'm going out tommorrow and buying a Gerber Gator, they are the best and strongest survival knife on the planet...................it is what Bear uses.............I must buy........................... ;)

Like everyone else on here i love watching his show. But watching him jump into that freezing water all i could think about was how stupid that has to be even to get higher rating. I guess we all like to watch a car wreck too lol.
Myakka you are too late i got all the knifes on the market so even bear has to buy the knife from me lol.

Did anyone happen to notice how poorly it was cutting/skinning the sheep? Maybe we should send him some sharpening stones.

I think the bear man carries the type of knife that he thinks the average lost guy might carry, not what SAS types like him self might carry. I have only one question for bear at what temperature is elephant poop squeezings best served, at room temp or chilled, shaken not stirred

MY daughter is a big fan of his and told me he talked about his knife on his blog. Here's the post

bear's knife....

I have had so many enquiries about what knife I consider best for all round performance blade.

Well, I have tried so many different ones during the filming of these 'Man Vs Wild''s & 'Born Survivor's', and if I am honest, none of them were quite right, (although in their defence. I did give them all a bit of a beating!)

So instead I have teamed up with Bayley knives and together have designed what I believe to be the most versatile, tough and practical knife available anywhere today.

Ironically, it has turned out very similar to ones we used in the SAS...but that is a beside...in conclusion, it is the knife I am currently using in any new episodes.

More info is from: www.bayleyknife.com

ok...first most shows bear uses a folder, the Gerber gator i think
has been in like four or five episodes.i've personally used and still do
on occation use a gerber gator the model i use is drop point 154cm orange
handled gator;) .the knife he indorsees is a drop point fixed blade wise
choice but......why does he use folders then endorse a fixed blade
just ramblings of a tyrant:confused:
tyrantblade

tyrantblade- I think he uses a folder because your average camper (the less experienced ones - since they get lost) probably only has a folder or not so wise as to keep the fixed blade on them.

Ilove Man vs Wild and also enjoy survivor man.
My wife makes fun of me and says why are you watching that again they do the same thing every week She knows i watch just to see the knives in action but she likes to bust my chops.Ialso catch her watching too!
I've noticed Bear using Gerbers and a Wegner Swiss army in the Alps episode.
He carries factory knives instead of customs so he can afford the $2000 Breitling watch he wears.

I watched last nights episode. It was the first time I ever watched it. It was fun
and I learned a lot from it. The lamb eyeball eating scene was a little hard to stomach. He does take some unnecessary risks. Like going deep into a old lava tunnel with only a torch to find water but it was was fun to see. Boiling the meat in the geothermal pool of boiling water on his shoe lace was cool.

Yeah... Doesn't one need to worry about sulfuric acid and gaseous emmission around geothermal pools?

I take Bear as more entertaining than instructional. He does go to some beautiful locations. I understand survival means taking extreme measures at times, but I think he pushes the envelope on that sometimes.

But he has a great show, and I'll continue to watch. If only the DVDs weren't so crazy-expensive (as compared to Les's DVDs, anyways).

hikeeba: Well it didn't seem to do him any harm and it got the job done.
I learned a lot from it. And yes it's entertaining but that does not mean It has no educational value. It's up to the viewer if they want to learn from it or not. I will
watch it from now on.
