I happened across an episode the other day and happen to notice that Bear was using one of his signature Gerbers, rather than that slick little custom job he used to carry.

In the episode that I was watching he took a dead seal and made himself a "wet suit" out of it. I can honestly say that one had never occurred to me.

Later in the episode he catches two 6" trout and after stating that the waters where he is at are so pristine that it would be ok to eat them raw. He then bites the head off the fish, spits it out and starts munching on the fish like gollum in that lord of the rings movie. The whole time I am like WTF!!! You have a knife! I just saw you use it.

I accept the premise of eating raw fish in a survival situation, but I think that might have been a situation where the Gerber would have got some more air time.

I think Bear should have went with Benchmade ! Was that the episode when he shows how to use your back up shoot?

What do you expect, from a guy that eats scorpions alive and whole. And I've seen him chow down on lion killed zebra, also raw. Drink stagnant water filtered through a make-shift tube strainer.

From what I've read about his show, he doesn't "have" to do any of this stuff to "survive". Of course that's sorta clear when you watch it and see how well equipped they are to follow Bear and film his acting. Bear really isn't going to get in any real trouble out there.

Bear Grylls isn't a survival expert.

it's all theatrics for the show. IMO, most people watch his show to see him do crazy "survival stuff".

He eats poop... 'nuff said.

Wrong! He eats "stuff" inside of poop! :D

Bear probably had to use the Gerber (I saw that too) for marketing purposes of the new signature series knife. Bear also shows techniques that only the most elite of survivalists, like Special Forces Instructors could pull off - as super athletes. A regular guy would die trying to pull off a lot of his techniques.

Les Stroud is more of an everyday person's survival guru, although Bear does have a wealth of info that can be learned other than scaling sheer rock cliffs. :)

These shows are fascinating to me though.

it is entertaining....but not much more than that....Its funny to know that the camera men do all the same things he does, but at a bigger disadvantage

Did any of you see the episode where Bear takes Will Farrel along with him...... now that is some funny tv!

i watch it because i think its entertaining, but i dont really listen to any of his advice, cause a lot of it will kill you in a real time of shtf

Yeah his show is pure entertainment. Some of the stuff he pulls on the show is incredibly high risk, and not something anyone should try but in the absolutely extreme survival cases.

His show reminds me of an escape and evade exercise, where he know where he is going to exfil and he is humping it there double time. He moves way faster than you would in a real survival situation, and takes more risk.

I do like survivor man, that guy is a lot more down to earth and actually practices a lot of techniques I have been taught, so it is a good reinforcement.

Bear's show does cracks me up, I guess that is why I watch it. It is just so over the top. It's one of those shows I cant watch without talking to the tv.

"Jesus Bear!! You have only been lost for two hours, might be a bit early to be drinking your own piss out of a snakes intestine."
