Losing hair on the crown or mid-anterior (top) of the head is one thing. Most of us that are follicly challenged have another problem, a receding hairline. At the same time, most of the prescription alternatives, e.g. Propecia, Rogaine won't stop or arrest a receding hairline. What to do? Several choices depending on cost, and the degree of the recession. 1. Live with it. Cheap. short hair cuts with what you have left are the most flattering. 2. hair transplant. Effective, permanent and expensive. $5K to $7K plus if it's done right (check out www.brandymd.com for a solid surgeon). 3. Cover it. Hairpieces or systems. Can work if it's not discoverable. 4. Inexpensive cover, I haven't had much luck from either Toppik & Couvre (http://www.spencerforrest.com)/, they don't seem to help that much. Check out www.dermatch.com It's cost effective and has worked pretty well for me. It would require that you at the beginning stages of the hair loss. Cheap adjuncts include Saw Palmetto (less the $20 for 2 months) and 5 percent Rogaine, recently released in generic.
