Hi Folks,

I'm practicing for my JS Performance Test ... Hopeing to test in January. Does anyone have a good source for reasonably priced Manila Rope?

Thanks for any help,

Bobb

That's what I'm talking about Mainaman ... Best prices I've seen in my search thus far.

Thanks!

Go to the phone book or the internet equivalent for your area and look for compaines who sell rigging equipment and or supplies, they should have all kinds of rope. If this doesn't work, look for companies who do rigging and ask them if you can get 10 feet or so of one inch manila rope from them.
If this doesn't workout, call a master smith in your area and ask where he gets his rope.

The rope cut is actually pretty easy. I wouldn't worry about that too much. Of course you should practice, and it is pretty fun :) The bonus is you can save the pieces and do lots more controlled cutting to check edge-retention further.

I'd just get 10 or 15' of rope, and stock up on 2x4's. That's a lot harder than it looks... almost anyone can eventually bash through one, but doing it cleanly in as few strokes as possible is an actual skill. It's more of an accuracy thing than a power thing.

I realize the 2x4 chops aren't a timed event in the JS test, but doing it half-vast is a good way to foul-up a fine edge.

Thanks for the information guys. I'm gonna purchase at least 100ft to have on hand in the shop.
